Auction Title: 2003 – Venice Auction: ANTIQUE MAH JONG GAME, SMALL APPLIANCES, ANTIQUE MAP OF FLORIDA, BARWARE, TABLE LINENS, POTTERY/PORCELAIN, ANTIQUE POSTCARDS, CHRISTMAS, CLOTHING, DINNER SERVICES, PILLOWS, SPECIALTY GLASS, TRAILER HITCHES. - AUCTION ENDS Tuesday October 20th, 2020 7:00PM ET

Item Description
1.1930s CARVED BAKELITE MAH JONG:  Not just decals stuck on tiles, this set is impressed or carved,  you can feel the indentations with your finger.  This set is without racks because they are not needed when the tiles can stand on their own.  ("Some sets may also include racks to hold tiles or chips (although in many sets the tiles are generally sufficiently thick so that they can stand on their own").  Game pieces needed (you will see that I have photographed all the game pieces so you can see exactly what tiles are missing....very few.):
Circle suit: named as each tile consists of a number of circles. Each circle is said to represent copper (tong) coins with a square hole in the middle.  Bamboo suit: named as each tile (except the 1 Bamboo) consists of a number of bamboo sticks. Each stick is said to represent a string (suo) that holds a hundred coins.  Character suit: named as each tile represents ten thousand (wan) coins, or one hundred strings of one hundred coins.  Wind tiles: East, South, West, and North.  Dragon tiles: red, green, and white. The term dragon tile is a western convention introduced by Joseph Park Babcock in his 1920 book introducing Mahjong to America. Originally, these tiles are said to have something to do with the Chinese Imperial Examination. The red tile means you pass the examination and thus will be appointed a government official. The green tile means, consequently you will become financially well off. The white tile (a clean board) means since you are now doing well you should act like a good, incorrupt official.  Flower tiles: typically optional components to a set of mahjong tiles, often contain artwork on their tiles.  WHILE FLOWER TILES ARE OPTIONAL, THIS IS WHAT I HAVE FOR FLOWER TILES, FOUR 1s, NO 2s, THREE 3s, ONE 4, ONE 5, AND ONE EXTRA UNNUMBERED.  MISSING:  One 7 crack.  Also included is the bakelite bettor and those sell for about $55.  Worthpoint sold-at-auction price for a set similar to this is about $2,000.00, therefore,
THIS LOT HAS A RESERVE.

2.ETHAN ALLEN CANTERBURY OAK BAKER'S RACK/ETAGERE/BOOKCASE:  With brass and glass elements, this is certainly another world-class piece of Ethan Allen Furniture.  Circa 1970s, and not a scratch on it.  All the glass is included and in perfect shape.  This piece is regularly up for sale for between $700 and $900.  Wouldn't this be awesome with orchids and sea shells displayed on it?  Model No. 19 0690 gives further specific information if needed.

3.1963 PRICE & KENSINGTON POTTERIES, LTD, COTTAGE WARE TEAPOT:  Made of earthenware.  All the sellers advertising this have the wrong date.  According to Kovel's Book of Marks on Pottery & Porcelain, this mark is the 1963 mark for Price & Kensington.  Made in Longport, Staffordshire, England.  In the shape of a cottage, and all hand  painted so each of the teapots I have seen on the internet are a little different.  At first glance, this appears to have some places with missing glaze, but I can't find any chips or fleabites or losses on this whole thing.  Worthpoint gives me a sold-at-auction price of $49.

UNUSED ANTIQUE POSTCARD, UNCLE SAM PLAYING BASEBALL, "KULTUR" BASEBALL, ENTITLED 'THE PINCH HITTER':  This pre-linen postcard is in very good condition (see scan) Political comic/humor related to World War I, publisher is perhaps YWCA??  Caption: "When I Knock the Cover off of That, William, What's Goin' to Become of You?" (Ball has the word "Kultur" on it) Bottom: "The Pinch Hitter".

Kultur:  noun German, (in Nazi Germany) native culture, held to be superior to that of other countries and subordinating the individual to national interests; a civilization characteristic of a time or a people.

William may refer to Kaiser Wilhelm.

17.THREE (3) CIRCA 1913 ANTIQUE POSTCARDS with DUTCH CHILDREN:  S. Bergman, NY manufactured two of these.  Little boy carrying trunk has artist signature of E. Weaver, clearly an artist of children, but I find nothing about this person.  These would look wonderful framed on a child's wall.

18.ITALIAN DINNER LOT including VINTAGE TATTERSALL COUNTY STYLE TABLECLOTH: 65"X49" vintage TATTERSALL* all cotton country tablecloth, 6 fringed extremely colorful napkins, napkin holder, parmesan cheese shaker, oil cruet, vinegar cruet. The tablecloth has a couple marks I could not get out, wash next time using vinegar in place of bleach and it should totally come out in a couple more washings. I got most of it out myself. This is a fun group of things to give an Italian friend or use yourself for your next fun Italian dinner!!!

*Tattersall is named after the English market where horse blankets were made and sold in this pin-stripey pattern.

22.MIRIAM LEFCOURT HAT, ITALY and TWO OTHERS:  All in excellent condition, the Lefcourt hats are always expensive and on the auction market, I found sold prices from $25 to $45 for one hat.  The other two hats are not marked.  The Lefcourt black-striped hat seems to be small, but is not marked as to size.

23.TABLECLOTH or PICNIC AT THE BEACH CLOTH:  Patriotic red eagles on one side and white eagles on the other, reversible.  Thick double-woven cotton-type fabric.  42"x46", and fringed all around.  Washed in Tide and hot water by Lynne, with love.

25.1914 POSTCARD by T.C. Co, Chicago, FLORIDA PINEAPPLE:  For the collector, these are called RPPCs (Real Photo Post Cards), but this one has a twist of having a GIANT pineapple superimposed over the original photo.  Entitled "A Good Wagon Load, Florida Pineapple" with the added delciousness of having a horse-drawn wagon with workers and what looks like a policeman.  These unusual postcards sell from $20-50 on Worthpoint which is an auction price website.

THIS POSTCARD APPEARS TO BE FROM SOMEONE NAMED LARKIN, WILLIAM LARKIN FOUNDED THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI in the very late 1800s.  AT that time, there was also a town of LARKIN.

CT Co.:  The Curt Teich Company was founded in Chicago, Illinois, by Curt Teich (1877–1974) in 1898. The company printed postcards, view postcards, and advertising cards, and became the world's largest printer of postcards. Teich was born in Greiz, Thuringia (Germany), and had been a lithographer in Lobenstein, Germany, before emigrating to Chicago in 1895. He founded his own firm in 1898, printing newspapers and magazines, and became an early publisher of postcards but did not begin printing them in number himself until 1908.

26.COLEMAN ELITE MONTANA 8-PERSON TENT with LED LIGHTING: Like new, looks new, consignor says "used once".  It is all packed into a bag with handles which is easy to move.  Retails for $250, sells on the auction market for $172 according to Worthpoint.  The product specs, according to Coleman Company are as follows:  "When the sun has set and the fire's out, you can keep the fun going after it's dark with a Coleman® Elite Montana™ 8-Person Lighted Tent. Its built-in LED lighting system provides bright, overhead illumination for reading a book or studying a map for the next day's hike. It also has a nightlight mode to help the kids feel safe as they drift asleep. And because it's CPX® 6 compatible, you can easily transfer the same power source from a Coleman® CPX® 6 lantern to your tent lighting. An extended door awning creates a dry space to store gear and enter the tent. If it rains, the included rainfly and the WeatherTec™ system with its patented welded floors and inverted seams will help you stay dry. Additionally, angled windows, which you can keep open in the rain, help keep the water out while allowing for extra air circulation. When the temperature heats up, the auto-roll window opens in a snap to let in the comforting breeze. Setup is simple with snag-free, continuous pole sleeves and the patented pin-and-ring system. A hinged door makes it easy to enter and exit your tent. Inside, there's enough room to stretch out on three queen-sized airbeds, and storage pockets help to keep small items organized. When it's time to head home, the tent easily packs up into an expandable carry bag with a rip strip until you're off on your next adventure."

LYNN HOLLYN "Conservatory Glass (pink) pattern" Dinnerware, Made in Portugal by Global Amici:

These were rare when purchased, 4 cups, four 8" side plates, four 11" dinner plates, all perfect.  Some crazing on the dinner plates, but research indicates that they were made in 1980 or a bit later.  I found no sold prices....nothing on Replacements, out of stock.

51.1890 A.J. LANTERNIER & CIE, LIMOGES, FRANCE - GILT ANTIQUE DINNER SERVICE, 4 DINNER PLATES, 4 DESSERT/SIDE PLATES:  This dinner ware partial service carries the 1890 mark.  All hand painted, heavy raised gold gilt edges,  The hand-painted campanula (Canterbury bells) are a favorite of Victorian design, they are painted in red, all by hand.  Some of the hand painted areas have rubbed off, but that is not a stencil, you can see that when you look at it with a loupe.  Lanternier was also famous for making dolls' heads.  Plates with heavy gilt such as these generally sell for $50 each and much more.  In 1857 François Frédéric Lanternier opened a porcelain decorating studio in Limoges. Around 1885, in association with Breuil, he took over the former Chabrol factory and started producing the wares that were decorated in his studio that employed 34 painters in 1870. The company carried on an extensive exporting business with table china being the primary product line. In 1890, Frédéric's son, Alfred, who had worked in England as a representative for Wedgwood, joined him and the company name was changed to A. Lanternier & Cie. At that time they bought another factory in Limoges. During the World War I they produced fine quality doll heads. From 1918 onwards the factory produced table wares (tea, coffee and dinner sets). In 1925 A. Lanternier presented several pieces at the Paris Decorative Arts Exhibition and was awarded a "Grand Prix" of the jury. The porcelains presented by Pomone design studio (Au Bon Marché department store) and La Maîtrise, the design studio of the famous Paris department store Galeries Lafayette, were produced by Lanternier. They also participated in the 1931 Paris Colonial Exhibition. The company merged with Porcelaines G.D.A. in the late 1960s.

52.DESSERT AND COFFEE SERVICE FOR SIX:  Decorated with peaches and butterflies, this set is surely evocative of Florida and the South.  Get your best girls together and your best dessert, and have a birthday party or just a giggle session.  There is no maker on this set, but it is complete and has a fleabite on one plate only.

53.1910 Antique Otto Grunert Kahla54.FOUR GREEN DEPRESSION GLASS WATER GOBLETS / DRINKING GLASSES:  Marked only W26 on the bottom, there is no information about this company, but you will notice their similarity to the refrigerator dishes of days gone by.  And I did find a reference to the fact that companies used to deliver products to restaurants in these glasses....who knows?  A set of these sells on Worthpoint for $30.

55.FIVE HIGH STYLE WINE GLASSES, PINK BOWL, GREEN FOOT/STEM WITH RAISED GRAPEVINE DESIGN:  I was told these were from Pier One.  However, I cannot find out which factory made them.  All my friends who have ever been to my house want them.

56.6 PLATES, WHITE, BRIDAL CAKE FROSTING EDGE

57.LOS ANGELES POTTERY, USA, ASIAN STYLE FOOTED SERVER

58.RAISED GOLD DECORATION ON PORCELAIN, MARKED MADE IN JAPAN:  Date is after 1921.  This appears to be more of a KIDDUSH cup that any other item.  But it's hard to say.  It's very unusual for a vase shape, it's too big to be a wine glass, and I can find nothing similar in this size:  5.5" tall with 3.75" mouth opening.  Wares with the triple leaf mark is an unknown. Many companies have closed and many records were lost.  There is a a Japanese web site on wares made during WWII, this mark was used on domestic items. These were designated as being from Gifu Prefecture.

66.ANTIQUE LUSTREWARE LEMON DISH:  A lemon dish always has this little single handle.  It's for serving the lemons for your tea.  Also useful for other foods that need lemons or limes at the ready.  In the classical process to make lustreware, a preparation of metal salts of copper or silver, mixed with vinegar, ochre, and clay is applied on the surface of a piece that has already been fired and glazed. ... Those particles give the second glaze a metallic appearance.

67.TWO WHITE SCALLOPED TOP COFFEE CUPS  Hand made so they do not belong in the microwave oven.  Very cute, though.  Tabletops Lifestyle brand, 'CASTLEWARE' design.

68.Beautiful Bohemian Hand Painted Floral Enamel, Black Border, Clear Center Plate. This is a vintage piece with heavy enamel not this light new painted, that will wash off.

69.

1915 OREMONT (ARZBERG) - BAVARIA (GERMANY)  PORCELAIN LUSTREWARE VASE No. 25 with SILHOUETTE DESIGN:  From circa 1915 to 1927, Arzberg used the export trademark ″Oremont″.  Arzberg is the trademark of a German manufacturer of porcelain, founded in 1887 in Arzberg, Bavaria. Its fame is largely based on designs by Hermann Gretsch, whose Form 1382, conceived in 1931 and based on Bauhaus principles, marks a milestone in modern design; Form 1382 is still produced today, and sold worldwide. Hutschenreuther AG, holder of the Arzberg trademark since 1972, was dissolved in 2000 and the trademark was taken over by SKV-Porzellan-Union GmbH, founded in 1993 by the porcelain companies Schirnding, Kronester and Johann Seltmann Vohenstrauß. In 2004, SKV-Porzellan-Union GmbH was renamed Arzberg-Porzellan GmbH. In 2003, the company had approximately 250 employees. Since 2000, however, the headquarters of the company holding the trademark Arzberg (and Schirnding as well) are located in Schirnding, where production took place. After 10 years Arzberg GmbH announced its insolvency. Today the trademark is owned by Rosenthal porcelain.

'THE SECRET', FOUR (4) AUDIO CDs by RHONDA BYRNE: Here's a little about this life-enriching book on cd which is still powerful today: This is mostly about getting rich, and who does not want that. This cd set usually sells at auction for between $10 and $28. It is still extremely desirable.  But I think a lot of these books help anyone improve in many other aspects of life because they open one to ideas about inner thoughts and problems.

The Secret is a 2006 self-help book by Rhonda Byrne, based on the earlier film of the same name. It is based on the belief of the law of attraction, which claims that thoughts can change a person's life directly. The book has sold 30 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 50 languages. The Secret was released as a film in March 2006, and later the same year as a book. The book is influenced by Wallace Wattles' 1910 book, The Science of Getting Rich,] which Byrne received from her daughter during a time of personal trauma, in 2004.[4] New York Times bestselling authors of The Passion Test, Janet Bray Attwood and Chris Attwood, are not featured in the film or the book, but arranged 36 of the 52 interviews for the film, many of which are referenced in the book. The book served as the basis for the 2020 film The Secret: Dare to Dream. Byrne re-introduces a notion originally popularized by persons such as Madame Blavatsky and Norman Vincent Peale that thinking about certain things will make them appear in one's life. Byrne provides examples of historical persons who have allegedly achieved this. Byrne cites a three-step process: ask, believe, and receive. This is based on a quotation from the Bible's Matthew 21:22: "And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." Byrne highlights the importance of gratitude and visualization in achieving one's desires, along with alleged examples. Later chapters describe how to improve one's prosperity, relationships, and health, with more general thoughts about the universe. The book has been translated into 50 languages and has sold over 30 million copies. Due partly to an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show, the book and film had grossed $300 million in sales by 2009. Byrne has subsequently released Secret merchandise and several related books. US TV host Oprah Winfrey is a proponent of the book. On The Larry King Show she said that the message of The Secret is the message she's been trying to share with the world on her show for the past 21 years. Author Rhonda Byrne was later invited to her show along with people who swear by The Secret.

79.CANNA LILIES, GROWN FROM SAVED SEED:  Because the bidder last week did not read the description, she thought she was getting a full-sized plant.  Here are three single plants.  The plant marked 101 was six inches tall last auction, now it is taller, and that means that the unmarked plant is also taller.  Please read the descriptions entirely.  We cannot always just let the bidders run awry.  A bid is a contract, and you are legally required to pay what you bid.  There is a preview that you can attend to make sure you are getting what you think you want, and if you fail to attend the preview, and you ALSO fail to bid according to the description, sorry, but you will have to pay and take the item home.  PINK CANNA, spreads and grows about 3 feet tall.

80.WARREN BRANDT, ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING,32"x37":  Warren Brandt has a series of TERRACE paintings which are very popular.  Some of them show the ocean in the distance.  Some are flower gardens.  I had this hanging in my lanai for years.  It is very upbeat and bright and makes you happy.  Brandt was born in 1918, died 2002.  No frame, just stretched.  Ready to hang just like this.

81.SILVERPLATE WAGER OR BRIDAL OR WEDDING CUP:  Old Vintage German Silverplate Marriage Wedding Toasting Wager Cup Vintage 7" Tall Stunning item , in Very Good condition. Made from Silver Plate , with a Gold Gilt inside , and a Pink gemstone set into the back. The story I was told, Centuries ago, in old Nuremberg , the nobel mistress Kunigunde fell in love with a young and ambitious goldsmith. Although Kunigunde's wealthy father did not approve of this pair, it was clear that she only wanted the goldsmith to be her husband as she refused many titled and rich suitors who asked for her hand in marriage. Her father became so enraged that he had the young goldsmith thrown into the darkest dungeon. Not even his daughter's bitter tears would change her father's mind. To her father's dismay, imprisoning the young man did not end his daughter's love for the goldsmith. Instead, he could only watch as his daughter grew paler and paler as a result of the separation from her true love. The wealthy nobleman reluctantly made the following proposal: He told his daughter, "If your goldsmith can make a chalice from which two people can drink at the same time without spilling one single drop, I will free him and you shall become his bride." Of course he was certain nobody could perform such a task... Inspired by love and with skillful hands, the young goldsmith created a masterpiece.

NARY MUTH 1972 SIGNED EMBROIDERED FLORAL COTTON SHEET FOR CURTAIN? BEDSPREAD? : 63" x 90", every flower and leaf is hand embroidered. I found several people named Nary Muth, and no, not MARY MUTH, some of whom would not have been alive in 1972. So I guess she will remain a mystery. However, 60" x 90" is the size of an XL twin bed sheet. Someone took an extraordinary amount of time to do this work for a loved one....a much loved one... There is a large hem at one end and I measured this as a whole as the hem should probably be removed, it is a 12" hem. The last photo shows the back of the piece (left side of photo) which is as beautifully finished as the front which is to the right

96.A JAR OF VINTAGE BUTTONS:  Too much fun not to sort, and look at what I found.  How about those darling children's bows in pink and white shown in photo 3.  How about those designs on 11 and 12, even tho there was only one of each?  Five pretty white ones with stars in the middle.  Lastly, two tortoiseshell large buttons.

99.SAGA MINK LADIES SHORT COAT, SCANDINAVIAN MINK:  Size is MEDIUM, B. Forman Co. of Rochester, NY was retailer.  While I am quite aware that fur is not an ethically correct item to sell and BEFORE you go all Rambo on me for selling this....I am a vegetarian, and that's because I REALLY LOVE ANIMALS. I do not eat them. Second-hand furs sold at auction are not sold from a store that needs to replenish its racks by killing more animals. These animals have been gone a long time. You are not hurting this animal or more animals by wearing this or any other second-hand fur coat or other product. It will keep you very warm. If anyone asks, I suppose you could say "it's a fake and isn't it a good one?" For fashionistas who love both animals and wearing fur, going vintage seems like a simple solution. Old furs don’t directly contribute to the profits of modern fur farms, and they’re less toxic to the environment than faux furs (shown by Anna Sui and Christian Siriano on the runway), which are made from petroleum. Fur coats and stoles from the ’50s and ’60s evoke the lux, decadent glamour of Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor, but vintage furs go for a fraction of the cost of their contemporary counterparts.  B. Forman Co. was a retail store in Rochester, New York specializing primarily in high-end women's clothing. Once the largest store of its kind between New York and Chicago, the company, founded by Benjamin Forman in the first decade of the twentieth century (now closed), B. Forman Co., along with McCurdy & Co., created Rochester's Midtown Plaza, one of the first enclosed Downtown malls in the United States.  (Cuprammonium rayon is a rayon fiber made from cellulose dissolved in cuprammonium solution. It is produced by making cellulose a soluble compound by combining it with copper and ammonia.)

Before you go all Rambo on me for selling this....I am a vegetarian, and that's because I REALLY LOVE ANIMALS. I do not eat them. Second-hand furs sold at auction are not sold from a store that needs to replenish its racks by killing more animals. These animals have been gone a long time.
